Community Memorial Hospital Lauds Volunteers

Ventura, California, 04/02/2006

Community Memorial Hospital and 158 of its Auxiliary members honored close to 60 men and women who have donated thousands of hours of service to hospital patients and their families.

Volunteers whose donated time last year reached levels ranging from 100 to 15,000 hours over the course of their years of service for CMH were celebrated at the annual Auxiliary Meeting and Awards Luncheon hosted by CMH and held at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in Ventura.

Special honors went to Genevieve Basso, Madalynne Tilly and Helen Webb for 40 years of volunteer service each; LaVonne Askay and Mary Lunny for 30 years of service; and Judy Eldeb, Judy Franklin and Catherine Keating for 20 years of service. Judy MacGregor and Judy Miller were recognized for each giving 15,000 hours; Helmut Hoenigsberg was recognized for giving 11,000 hours; and Clara Alviani and Suzanne Clark were recognized for each giving 9,000 hours. Forty-five other volunteers were recognized for giving hours ranging from 7,000 to 100.

The Auxiliary also thanked CMH Marketing Manager Mary McCormick, who publishes Helping Hand, the Auxiliary’s monthly magazine, and Helen Bagley, Gift Shop manager.

Several hundred Auxiliary members at CMH, including teens in the Junior Volunteers Program, perform a variety of tasks such as discharging patients; stocking supplies; delivering books, flowers, mail and medications; staffing the front desk; assisting in the Pharmacy, Emergency Department, Recovery and Same Day Surgery; and cuddling premature infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Auxiliary members also raise money from souvenir birth certificate sales, fundraisers and gift shop sales. The Auxiliary presented President & CEO Gary Wilde and CMH Board President Gary Wolfe with a check for $165,000 from earnings last year. Other CMH administrators and Auxiliary leaders attended the event, including past Auxiliary presidents.

The new Auxiliary officers are: Trudy Cook, president; Shelby Bauer, first vice president; Ann Warnagieris, second vice president; Marjo Gardner, recording secretary; Mary Harrison, corresponding secretary; Katie Weldon; LaVonne Askay and Rod Weldon, directors; Edie Marshall, junior coordinator; Judy Miller, parliamentarian; and Ruth Downey, past president.

Anyone interested in joining the CMH Auxiliary is asked to call Trudy Cook at 216-5638, or pick up an application form at the reception desk at CMH, located at 147 N. Brent St. in Ventura.
