Community Memorial Hospital Volunteers are Honored

Ventura California, 03/23/2010

Community Memorial Hospital and 150 of its Auxiliary members honored close to 70 men and women who have donated thousands of hours of service to hospital patients and their families.

Volunteers whose donated time last year reached levels ranging from 100 to 16,000 hours of service for CMH were celebrated at the annual Auxiliary Meeting and Awards Luncheon hosted recently by CMHS and held at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in Ventura. This year’s theme was “Caring Hands & Helping Hearts.”

Special honors went to Judy Miller and Peg Molesworth for 30 years of volunteer service; and Clara Alviani, Annabelle D’Aprix and Susan Nolan for 20 years of service. Andrew Anguiano and Beverly Brown were recognized for giving 7,000 hours of service; Shelby Bauer, Nancy Dressler, Marjo Gardner and Angelina Hall for each giving 6,000 hours; Edie Hines for giving 5,000 hours; Phyllis Blankenburg, Connie Ferritto, Marlene Sturgell and Ann Warnagieris for each giving 4,000 hours; Judy Eldeb and Pat Zebker for each giving 3,000 hours; and Jo Ann Bowen, Tom Johnston and Edie Marshall for each giving 2000 hours. In addition, 47 other volunteers were recognized for giving at least 100 to 1000 hours.

The Auxiliary members at CMH, including teens in the Junior Volunteers Program, perform a variety of tasks such as discharging patients; stocking supplies; delivering books, flowers, mail and medications; staffing the front and back desks; assisting in Maternity, Pharmacy, the Emergency Department, Same Day Surgery, Ambulatory Services and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, as well as cuddling premature infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Auxiliary members also raise money from souvenir birth certificate sales, fundraisers and gift shop sales. At this year’s luncheon, the Auxiliary presented Vice President and COO, Adam Thunell with a check for $110,000 from earnings in the last year. The Auxiliary is excited to designate the funds this year towards the building of the new Community Memorial Hospital. In appreciation, Thunell thanked the Auxiliary and noted, “Since 1962 the Auxiliary at CMH has donated nearly $2,965,736.30.” In the year 2009, the CMH Auxiliary also donated 38,000 service hours.

The Auxiliary also thanked Helen Bagley, who manages Community Memorial Hospital’s gift shop and is instrumental in their fundraising efforts. CMHS Board of Trustees member Gary Wolfe, along with Stanley Frochtzwajg, CMH Chief Medical Officer, and Haady Lashkari, Assistant Vice President of Operations, attended the event and expressed their appreciation. Also in attendance was David Glyer, Vice President of Finances & CFO, as well as past Auxiliary presidents.

Anyone interested in joining the CMH Auxiliary is asked to call 652-5043, or pick up an application form at the reception desk at CMH, located at 147 N. Brent St. in Ventura.
