CMHS Hires Mary Schmitz as New Director of Development

Community Memorial Health System has hired Mary F. Schmitz, R.N., Ph.D., as its new Director of Development.
Schmitz joins CMHS after serving the past seven years as president and chief executive officer of the Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital Foundation. Mary led the hospital foundation’s fundraising efforts, resulting in $45 million in donations from 2003 to 2009.
In her new post, Schmitz’s duties include:
- Managing CMHS’ $25 million capital campaign in support of the building of a new Community Memorial Hospital and major renovation of Ojai Valley Community Hospital.
- Developing the long-term fundraising capability of CMHS.
Schmitz has been in the healthcare field for over 35 years, including nine years as an independent consultant with national and international clients. She also has authored dozens of articles for a variety of healthcare publications, including the American Journal of Health Promotion, the Journal of Occupational Medicine and Managed Care Quarterly.
Schmitz graduated from the nursing program from Mount St. Mary’s College in Los Angeles and earned her master’s degree in Community Health Nursing from the Arizona State University School of Nursing. She also holds a doctorate degree from the UCLA School of Public Health.
Community Memorial Health System is a not-for-profit health system, which is comprised of Community Memorial Hospital, Ojai Valley Community Hospital, and nine family-practice health centers entitled Centers for Family Health. The health system is located in Ventura County, California.
