The October Classic 5k/10k & Kids Relay, Walk, Run and Wheel for your Life is taking place October 2nd
Ojai California, 08/16/2010
For the past 9 years the Classic has proven to be a great day of fitness and fun for all involved. Avid runners, casual walkers and family members of all ages are enthusiastically encouraged to come out and support our local community hospital’s Continuing Care Center by taking part in the day’s activities.
This year the hospital foundation is partnering with a number of organizations including; Rotary, Food for Thought and the Ojai Unified School District among others, with the goal of making an even greater impact on the overall health and fitness of our valley’s children and their families. In addition to the annual October Classic, starting this fall in local elementary schools, this community wide collaboration will be launching Fit-ED for Kids (Fitness Initiative to Eradicate Disease). Fit-ED is a kid friendly program designed to educate and encourage children and their families to adopt lifestyles that incorporate increasing their consumption of vegetables, fruits and whole-grains along with daily physical activity.
Fit-ED for Kids’ simple and achievable goals go a long way towards combating the growing concern of childhood obesity and lowering the probability of our valley’s children developing a number of diseases that are directly correlated to poor nutrition and inactivity. FIT-ED is incorporating a BINGO nutrition game that encourages kids to make healthier food choices and have fun with fitness on a daily basis. Students who participate in the BINGO game and earn one or more BINGOs will be awarded the morning of the October Classic Kid’s Relay with a cool t-shirt designed especially for the FIT-ED initiative.
Plan now to gather a group of friends, co-workers or club members and run, walk or wheel for your life at the October Classic! All proceeds from the event will support the Ojai Valley Community Hospital’s Continuing Care Center.
