Coastal Communities Cancer Center Grand Opening Set for Feb. 24

Ventura, California, 02/18/2011

Community Memorial Health System is holding a Grand Opening for its Coastal Communities Cancer Center on Thursday, Feb. 24, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

The center, on the Community Memorial Hospital campus, is located at 2900 Loma Vista Road, is the first comprehensive cancer center in Ventura. It will house the following medical offices:

  • Cabrillo Radiation Oncology Medical Center
  • Ventura County Hematology-Oncology Specialists
  • W. Michael Hogan, M.D., of the Gynecologic Oncology Center
  • Grossman Imaging Center
  • CMH Cancer Resource Center

CCCC is a cutting-edge cornerstone of Community Memorial Hospital’s new 21st Century campus, which, when completed, will feature a new state-of-the-art hospital as well as the current medical office building across the street from CMH.

“This is a dream come true for this community,” said Dr. Thomas Fogel, a radiation oncologist at the Cabrillo Radiation Oncology Medical Center. “I came here 23 years ago and ever since, I have been thinking there is an opportunity to elevate the collaboration of cancer care to the next level in Ventura. This is the next level.”

Dr. Lynn Kong of Ventura County Hematology-Oncology Specialists agrees. “It is very helpful for the physicians as well as the patients,” Dr. Kong said. “I think the Coast Communities Cancer Center will help communication between specialists, the coordination of care and convenience for patients. I have had many patients who wished they had ‘one-stop shopping.’ They want to go to one place and be able to take care of all their cancer needs. This is really the best way we can provide that service.”

According to the American Cancer Society and the California Cancer Registry, more than 3,300 residents in Ventura County will be diagnosed with cancer this year. More daunting: an estimated 1,100 county residents will die from cancer in 2011.

The 23,000-square-foot building is designed to meet every need for patients as comfortably and conveniently as possible and it means patients can receive big-city expert care in Ventura, said Gary Wilde, President and CEO of Community Memorial Health System.

“We are served in this community by top-flight, Class A oncology professionals,” Wilde said. “We do not have to go anywhere else to receive superlative care.”

Following the grand opening, guests are invited to join us for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Ventura kickoff ceremony.
