CMH’s ‘Renew’ Art Exhibit opens on March 6

Ventura, California, 03/04/2011

Paintings and drawings celebrating the cycle of nature will be on display for public viewing on the first floor of Community Memorial Hospital when the Community Memorial Healthcare Foundation presents its “Renew” art exhibit running March 6 to June 4.

The exhibit is a joint partnership between CMH, the Buenaventura Art Association and the Community Memorial Healthcare Foundation.

A “Meet the Artists” reception is set for Tuesday, March 29, from 5 to 7 p.m., in the hospital’s first-floor lobby located at 147 N. Brent St. in Ventura. This event is open to the public.

All paintings and drawings on display are by local artists, who were invited to submit their literal or symbolic interpretation of renewal and its rejuvenating impact. Proceeds will be used for future exhibits as well as to benefit local artists, the Buenaventura Art Association and the Foundation’s philanthropic efforts.

CMH has been holding art exhibits in its first-floor hallways since December 2008, but for the first time has an exhibit curator – Susan Cook, a contemporary painter and a public art commissioner for the city of Ventura.

“It is quite a coup to have her,” said Layla Hallberg, executive director of the Buenaventura Art Association. “Susan brings a lot of status to the exhibit. She’s an incredible artist and very well known locally. She has a number of works in public and private collections.”

As for the “Renew” exhibit, Hallberg said, “It’s very exciting.  The styles are so different, the mediums are different and many of the techniques are new.” She added the works also come in various sizes and price ranges.

Community Memorial Hospital is located at 147 N. Brent St. in Ventura.

Community Memorial Hospital is a member of Community Memorial Health System, a not-for-profit health system, which is comprised of Community Memorial Hospital, Ojai Valley Community Hospital, and nine family-practice health centers entitled Centers for Family Health.  The health system is located in Ventura County, California.
