CMH Holding ‘Change & Reclaim’ Art Exhibit through Dec. 3
Ventura, California, 09/26/2011
“Change & Reclaim” is the theme of Community Memorial Hospital’s newest art exhibit beginning Sept. 18 and running through Dec. 3.
A “Meet the Artists” reception is set for Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 5 to 7 p.m., in the hospital’s first-floor lobby. This event is open to the public and reservations are not required to attend. The exhibit, a joint partnership between CMH, the Buenaventura Art Association and the Community Memorial Healthcare Foundation, is located on the first floor at Community Memorial Hospital, 147 N. Brent St. in Ventura.
CMH has been holding art exhibits quarterly for the past three years, and Layla Hallberg, executive director of the Buenaventura Art Association, said the works have shown to have a positive effect on the hospital’s patients, visitors and staff. “People have told me how wonderful it is to have the artwork, because being in a hospital is not necessarily a pleasant experience,” Hallberg said. “But when people look at art, it can take them to a different place, and that’s a great accomplishment.” “They linger in front of pieces; they really do,”
Hallberg added. All paintings and drawings are by local artists and are for sale throughout the exhibit. Proceeds from each sale go towards the maintenance of the program, local artists, Buenaventura Art Association and philanthropic support of Community Memorial Hospital.
For the exhibit, local artists were asked, “Change & Reclaim: What does that mean to you? Does it mean recycling waste for other uses? Does it signify our changing world, the environment...social...music, and of course, art? Or does it invite the viewer to refresh and 'change' their mood by looking at art? Did your mood change by creating this work? We want to see your interpretations!” About 65 of these works from 30 local artists are on display, representing a variety of sizes, styles and mediums.
Community Memorial Hospital is a member of Community Memorial Health System, a not-for-profit health system, which is comprised of Community Memorial Hospital, Ojai Valley Community Hospital, and nine family-practice health centers entitled Centers for Family Health.
