Nearly 200 Ojai Valley Community Hospital supporters brought the 1950s back to Ojai at “The Hop” on May 15 at St. Thomas Aquinas Hall. The Ojai Valley Community Hospital Foundation Guild is still calculating expenses and donations, but it appears that proceeds from the event will exceed $30,000. OVCH is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
Guests were greeted by vintage cars, a photo booth, and cut-outs of 1950s’ icons Marilyn Monroe and James Dean. A live disc jockey was on hand to spin dedications and hits of the era. Partygoers dressed in rolled-up blue jeans and poodle skirts, accessorizing with classic scarves, charm bracelets, and saddle shoes.
After a meal of Bob’s Big Boy hamburgers and french fries, a “Care-a-Lot” reverse auction was conducted with Dr. James Halverson serving as auctioneer. Enough funds were raised to complete improvements to the patio at the hospital’s Continuing Care Center. “The Hop” Chairman Brenda Farr said, “I am very happy. ‘The Hop’ was not only a big financial success for our hospital, but everyone had a lot of fun. This is always the combination we all hope for when planning an event.”
