CMH Auxiliary Honors Volunteers Years of Service

Community Memorial Hospital and nearly all of its Auxiliary members honored 58 women and men who together have donated thousands of hours of service to hospital patients and their families.

Volunteers who have reached levels ranging from 100 hours to 30 years over the course of their years of service for CMH were celebrated at the annual Auxiliary Meeting and Awards Luncheon. CMHS held the event on Feb. 6 at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in Ventura. This year’s theme was “Volunteers Serve With Heart.”

Special honors went to Diane Cunningham, Doris Sprague and Edie Hines for 30 years of volunteer service, Jerry Bennett and Jean Boyer for 20 years of service, and Judy Miller for 20,000 hours of service.

Clara Alviani was recognized for over 14,000 hours of service; Katie Weldon for 11,000 hours; Ruth Downey and Marjo Gardner for 10,000 hours; Ray Cavallero and Edie Marshall for 9,000 hours; Connie Ferritto and Edie Hines for 6,000 hours; Sandy Frandsen for 5,000 hours; Judy Eldeb for 4,000 hours; Mary Harrison and Ann Howard for 3,000 hours; Arline E. Brown, Dick Eckstrom, Sue McDonald, Lois Moynihan, Linda Pettit, Mary Wdowicki, Joan Wink each for 2,000 hours; and Gloria Cuddy, Lita Emch, Vincent O'Neill, Louise Sherman, Gretchen Thorpe, Kath Wurts for each giving 1000 hours.

In addition, 6 other volunteers were recognized for 500 hours and another 22 volunteers were honored for 100 hours.

The Auxiliary members at CMH, including teens in the Junior Volunteers Program, perform a variety of tasks such as: discharging patients; stocking supplies; delivering books, flowers, mail and medications; staffing the front and back desks; assisting in Maternity, Pharmacy, the Emergency Department, Same Day Surgery, Ambulatory Services and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, as well as cuddling premature infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Auxiliary members also raise money from souvenir birth certificate sales, fundraisers and gift shop sales. At this year’s luncheon, the Auxiliary presented CMHS Vice President, COO Adam Thunell with a check for $125,000 from earnings in the last year. Since 1962 the Auxiliary at CMH has donated $3,500,164.89.
New Auxiliary Board Members were installed: Sandy Frandsen, President; Linda Pettit, 1st Vice President; Marjo Gardner, 2nd Vice President; Mary Cathcart, Recording Secretary; Mary Wdowicki, Corresponding Secretary; Katie Weldon, Treasurer; Connie Ferritto and Carol Torsney, Directors; Edie Marshall, Juniors; Judy Miller, Parliamentarian; and Ruth Downey, Past President.

Among those attending the luncheon included: Adam Thunell, Vice President & COO; Jeff Paul, Board of Trustees Chair; Stan Frochtzwajg, M.D., Chief Medical Officer; David Glyer, Chief Financial Officer; Barbara Reynolds, Tri-Counties Area Council immediate past president; Katie Weldon, CMH Auxiliary outgoing president; Sandy Frandsen, CMH Auxiliary incoming president.
