Her twin, Brystol Skye Jenkins, was born a minute earlier at 11:59 p.m. at Community Memorial Hospital. K’lah Jenkins was not able to hold her babies, only touch them out of precaution for the premature girls.

First of 2016

Twin girls were born a minute apart but in different years at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, making them the last baby born in 2015 and the first born in 2016 at CMH.

Brystol Skye Jenkins was born at 11:59 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and her younger sister Brynlee Rae Jenkins was born at midnight on New Year’s Day, said Remie Lempke, the hospital’s house supervisor. Brynlee was the first baby born in 2016 at a Ventura County hospital.

The girls’ parents, K’lah Jenkins, 27, and Cameron Jenkins, 24, were excited to greet their new bundles of joy, said the twins’ mother.

The twins are the couple’s first children together, the Ventura woman said. She has two sons, 8 and 9, from a previous relationship and said the boys are looking forward to being big brothers.

The Ventura woman said the twins were born premature via cesarean section and required extra care in the neonatal intensive care unit.

“Because they were premature they have them hooked up to oxygen,” she said. Brystol weighed 5 pounds and 2 ounces and Brynlee weighed 4 pounds and 9 ounces, their mother said.
