Neurology is the medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, continuing assessment and care of patients with diseases of the central and peripheral nervous systems, including disorders affecting the muscles. The nature of neurological practice is developing rapidly, with new expensive, effective and complex therapies for many disorders including multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease.
Neurologists may perform and analyze tests related to the nervous system or muscles. They may also work with other physicians or surgeons—including neurosurgeons—to develop a treatment program.
