Upon each visit visitors are required to check in at the front desk where they will be provided with a visitor badge which must be worn throughout the hospital.

Your family and friends are welcome guests; however, please limit visitors to no more than two at one time. Our visiting hours are from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., every day. ICU/CCU visiting hours are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. every day. In consideration for our other patients, please have your guests follow these visitor guidelines.

For infection control purposes, children under 14 are not permitted to visit patients, with the exception of siblings of newborn babies and relatives of oncology patients. Children in waiting areas must be attended by an adult at all times.

Visitors with respiratory, skin, or acute gastrointestinal infections should not visit. Visitors, especially children, who have been exposed and may be incubating communicable diseases (e.g., chicken pox, measles, or german measles) should not visit and should not be brought to patient care unit areas such as waiting rooms, or playrooms.

Visitors should use hand hygiene and other precautions as appropriate to their degree of contact with patient and as Nursing staff request. Please do not use the patient’s restroom, use the public restrooms in all wait areas and hallways on the Nursing Units.


Your friends and family may call your room directly from 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. The number is 805/585-3015. Ask your nurse for the extension number for your room and bed.

Telephones are next to your bed. To dial a hospital department, dial the 4-digit extension number only. To place a local call, dial 9 and the number. All other calls require a telephone calling card.

Internet Access

The hospital features wireless Internet access, so you may use personal devices to connect to your family and friends.


Each patient room is equipped with a color TV.

Smoking Policy

In the cause of good health, and in conformance with our mission of promoting wellness and preventive programs, Community Memorial is a smoke free/tobacco free facility. Smoking is not allowed by patients, visitors, or staff anywhere within the Health System, including any space within the hospital boundaries, off-site public or private offices or rooms, properties leased by the Health System, gardens, stairwell landings, entrances or exits, and any structure connecting to parking areas or medical office buildings.

Food Services

In addition to our regular menu, our Food Services Department is pleased to offer you its Gourmet Fare Menu of specially prepared dinners. The Gourmet Fare is available at an extra charge and is not available to patients on restricted diets. You may reserve a Gourmet Meal by filling out the reservation form which your nurse can supply. The Food Services Department will accommodate a change in your meal time if a treatment is scheduled at the same time.

Your meals may be restricted before surgery or procedures. In addition, your meals may be restricted based on your physician’s orders.

Guest Meals

If you would like a visitor to have a meal in your room, a guest tray may be purchased at the admitting window on the first floor. Present the receipt to the unit secretary on your floor by 10:00 a.m. for lunch and by 3:00 p.m. for dinner. Visitors are welcome to purchase meals in our cafeteria at any time..

Gift Shop

The Auxiliary Gift Shop is open:

Monday – Friday
8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Flowers, Mail, Newspapers

Mail and flowers will be delivered to your room. Please note that flowers are not permitted inside the ICU/CCU. Newspapers are available at a newsstand outside the Loma Vista Street entrance. You may call the Auxiliary Desk at ext. 6176 if you would like a paper purchased for you.

Lost and Found

The Environmental Services Department maintains a “Lost and Found” for patients’ belongings, which may have been misplaced. Please inform your nurse if something is lost.

Spiritual Care Services

Community Memorial is nonsectarian and welcomes the clergy of all faiths. Clergy representing most denominations make regular visits to the hospital. An interfaith chapel is located on the first floor and is open to visitors and patients at all times. The Spiritual Care Director may be reached at 805/652-5450.

No Legal Services Available

The hospital does not provide a notary service, and employees may not witness the preparation of legal documents other than hospital consent forms. If you are in need of this service, please make arrangements through friends or family.

Other Needs

Please let us know of any special needs or wishes you may have, so that we can assist you. If you have any questions or problems, please ask to speak with the Nursing Director for your floor. If your Nursing Director is not available, there is a Clinical Supervisor on your floor, and a Nursing Supervisor is available at night/weekends.

Tips & Gifts

The solicitation or acceptance of gratuities from patients is not permitted. If you wish to express gratitude for services rendered with a gift, you are encouraged to donate a gift through the Community Memorial Healthcare Foundation. Special funds are available, such as nurse education, new equipment, and improved facilities. For more details call 805/667-2881.
