Residency Program

Curriculum - Procedures

Our residents have training and experience in a number of bedside procedures, from skin biopsies to endotracheal intubation. These procedures are taught under direct supervision during applicable rotations as detailed in our curricula.  Residents are provided with UpToDate and are required to use this reference or another standardized peer-reviewed reference to review the steps involved in a given procedure. They then review the process with the supervising attending and perform the procedure under direct supervision with subsequent verbal and written feedback.  In addition, residents participate in a Simulation Lab during their Critical Care rotation.  They spend dedicated time with our ICU intensivists training in intubation and arterial and central line placement to improve resident procedural knowledge and competency.  Our goal is to improve quality of care and patient safety while facilitating communication, teamwork, and critical thinking.
