Testimonials

  • Testimonial from Robert Stowe
"CMH provided the best possible foundation for my future medical career. Each and every staff member, from physician to maintenance, made my 3rd year clinical rotations the best they could possibly be. Whether it be the fantastic clinical opportunity with preceptors always willing to teach or the many lectures provided by residents directly catered to us, there was not a missed opportunity to grow and learn as a student doctor. The institution always made medical students a valued member of the team, giving us an opportunity to make presentations at morning report, inviting us to resident gatherings, and gaving us career advisement. I sincerely could not imagine feeling as confident in my future as I do right now without having rotated through CMH. Thank you!"

"The time I spent at CMH was transformative for me as a medical student, and it provided the perfect environment for putting the book knowledge I learned during the first and second years of medical school into real-world practice. The advantage of doing rotations at CMH is that the hospital is large enough to provide exposure to a wide range of pathologies, while being small enough of a community to allow for support among fellow medical students and residents. At CMH, I worked closely with the residents throughout the year, taking on more responsibilities as my patient care skills grew. By the end of my time here, I felt comfortable carrying out almost all aspects of patient care and now feel entirely confident as I head into my fourth year sub-I rotations. The residents, attendings, and medical education staff are all there to support you and help you learn; I felt lucky to have so much support during the stresses of third year.
I highly recommend CMH to anyone interested!"

"Community Memorial Hospital has proven time and time again
to be a wonderfully supportive and education focused institution. Whether learning how to deliver a neonate or practicing presentations during morning rounds, the attending physicians and house-staff were all keen to provide positive encouragement and guidance
along the path toward acquiring and refining the basics of clinical rotations. Every rotation had tremendous opportunities for self-motivated learning, and the team based approach gives medical students ample room to excel. The staff at the hospital are all welcoming, supportive, and readily take part in education as well.
In all, the superior training environment of Community Memorial Hospital gave me ample room to grow while providing positive feedback and support when appropriate."

“Having been born and raised in Ventura County, I was familiar with CMH but I never would have predicted just how warm and encouraging the environment here would be. The nurses were wonderful to work with and often went that extra step to involve me in my patients' care. The staff in every department from the cafeteria to the lab was always willing to take time out of their day to help a lost medical student. Meanwhile, the education and support I received from my attendings and residents was nothing short of phenomenal. I had loads of one on one time with the attendings, who were all wholeheartedly dedicated to our learning, often holding impromptu lecture sessions, helping us develop our history and physical exam skills, and teaching us not just medicine but also the art of healing. The housestaff grew to be great friends and colleagues over the course of a year, always ready to teach us and share their experiences. I will miss the people here dearly but I will treasure the laughs and memories and take the invaluable knowledge I gained with me onwards into the next phase of my clinical training.”

  • Testimonial from Ariana Getz
“Spending my third year of medical school at Community Memorial Hospital I learned the value of patient centered care in a community-focused environment. I might see a patient in clinic on Family Medicine then again, later in the year, in the hospital setting while on Internal Medicine. The program fostered our close working relationships with the CMH physicians and residents, and built support and camaraderie among the group of participating students. The faculty and attending physicians were enthusiastic teachers, encouraging and motivating, challenging me to grow as a student and future physician. I discovered my medical path while here at CMH and while I am sad to leave, I am excited to take with me, and to share, what I have learned.”

  • Testimonial from Nguyen
“From attending physicians who have a seemingly endless supply of knowledge to draw from to the residents who challenged me to develop my clinical skills, CMH has been a fantastic environment to begin my clinical training. Having spent a year rotating across multiple specialties within a community, I have developed an appreciation for full-scope care of patients. With a growing academic environment at CMH, I was able to participate in the care of a wide variety of patients while also participating in clinical research identifying opportunities to improve care for cancer patients. None of this would have been possible without the mentorship and support of the CMH physicians and staff. Finally, the camaraderie among the faculty, residents, students, and staff is evident everyday during morning report, teaching rounds, and conferences. Whether sharing a Thanksgiving dinner, playing Frisbee on the beach, or providing first aid and emotional support for marathon runners, my classmates and I have always felt part of the graduate medical education family at CMH.”

  • Testimonial from Dain Zylstra
“I had the wonderful privilege of spending a full year at Community Memorial Hospital and as a result was able to acquaint myself with each department fairly well. The education of medical students and residents, while maintaining the highest standards of patient-centered care, is what impressed me most during my time at CMH. Each of my preceptors embodied the fact that by focusing on the patient's best interest, my own education happened naturally. Working directly with highly skilled physicians, residents, and nurses who collaborated remarkably well impressed upon me the importance of teamwork. This has given me a framework for which I will model my approach to patient care in the future. I am extremely lucky to have done my 3rd year rotations with CMH and would recommend this program above the others!”

  • Testimonial from Tim Park
“Medical education at CMH is a unique opportunity to learn directly from highly-skilled, enthusiastic attending physicians in an intimate, one-on-one setting. Patient population and pathology are diverse, affording medical students a wide array of case studies upon which to build a solid foundation of medical knowledge. Procedural skills are an important component of physician training. At CMH, under careful guidance, you will be encouraged to practice these skills when appropriate. Excision biopsy, incision and drainage, D&C, Foley catheters, IUDs, IVs, casting, suturing, intubation, circumcision, epidural, and vaginal deliveries are some of the procedures that students have been able to perform here. But at the end of the day it’s not just the things I’ve learned, but the people I’ve met that make the difference. I’ve had great experiences with exceptional teachers in a warm, supportive environment where high quality patient care is more than a slogan. CMH is a very special place.”

"Rotating at CMH has been an incredible experience. The one-on-one attention I received, along with the attending physician's willingness and enthusiasm towards teaching made my time at CMH an invaluable learning experience. The hospital's culture is undeniably one of teamwork and collaboration and one where students are also an integral part of the treatment team. The entire staff at CMH took the time to help me along the way and make me feel like they were personally invested in my success and education."

  • Testimonial from Tanen St. Clair-Brown
"Community Memorial Hospital (CMH) is an institution devoted to being a leader in progressive medical education. CMH has invested its resources into creating a collaborative and knowledgeable team of students, nurses, physicians and staff. Having the opportunity to work within an environment that boasts a 1:1 ratio of students to attendings, has made for an experience that is enormously impactful on my education as I progress from student to doctor. It is this atmosphere that has allowed me the autonomy to be first assistant during my surgery rotation, as well as help deliver neonates, on my Ob/Gyn rotation, that I have followed throughout their prenatal care. It is the upbeat environment and the experienced staff that has made my time with CMH, a remarkable 3rd year rotation."

CMH faculty offer a truly supportive atmosphere to meet and exceed our educational objectives in each rotation, thus creating the ideal learning environment. While achieving academic success, students will absolutely enjoy their time at CMH and the opportunity to live in the beautiful city of Ventura."
