President & CEO, Community Memorial Health System
Thank you for your interest in the Medical Residency program at Community Memorial Health System (CMHS).
CMHS is the oldest, private, not-for-profit hospital-based health system in Ventura County, California. Our storied history began more than a century ago with roots that reach deep into Ventura County. Through the benevolence of Cephas L. Bard, a gifted country doctor, and his brother, Thomas R. Bard, a United States Senator, the county’s first 12‑bed hospital opened in 1902 and was named the Elizabeth Bard Memorial Hospital in honor of their beloved mother.
Today, that original hospital has been transformed into a health system that is comprised of two hospitals, twelve ambulatory care clinics, and numerous health-affiliated centers. We are a community-owned, not-for-profit organization. Guiding us on our esteemed mission is a volunteer and diverse Board of Trustees that represents a cross section of leaders in our community.
Our health system is based in the city of Ventura, located 63 miles northwest of Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Santa Barbara. Our warm Mediterranean climate and wonderful quality of life are a few of the lifestyle reasons many call Ventura home.
We are personally committed to providing each of our residents a comprehensive training experience that allows them to attain their personal career objectives. The combination of a diverse patient population and an outstanding and dedicated faculty and staff provides residents in our program with the necessary ingredients for a rich and diverse educational experience.
